AKRS Design Group Develops Award Winning
Historic Downtown Statesville Brochure

In 2006 Amanda Swierad, President of AKRS Design Group, was approached by Downtown Statesville Development Corporation to produce a brochure that gives visitors a glimpse of what Historic Downtown Statesville has to offer. “The Historic Downtown Statesville brochure is an outstanding marketing tool and introduction that showcases our fantastic downtown and all that it has to offer. Downtown Statesville is a great place to work, live, and play and I am honored to be a part of this award winning brochure,” said Swierad.
Downtown Statesville Development Director, Marin Tomlin notes, “This was a much needed brochure that showcases the character of downtown and gives visitors, as well as the local community, a wonderful glimpse of the shops, restaurants, things to do and the history that can be found in the heart of our community. AKRS Design Group did an amazing job of transforming our vision into this award-winning brochure.”
Recently Downtown Statesville Development Corporation announced that the Historic Downtown Statesville brochure was recognized for its excellence at the 2007 N.C. Main Street Awards competition. In the category of Best Downtown Promotional Item: Text and Graphics, DSDC received an Award of Merit.
The N.C. Main Street Program’s annual awards competition recognizes the outstanding achievements of participating communities in categories reflecting the four areas emphasized by Main Street. Over 50 entries were judged by a panel that includes state Main Street program staff and other professionals in downtown development, historic preservation and the arts.
Following the judging of the 50 entries nominated by 16 of the program’s communities, Office of Urban Development Director Rodney Swink remarked, “Our annual awards competition provides an opportunity for local Main Street programs to showcase some outstanding work, allowing us to see a number of inspiring projects that we might not otherwise see. We all like for our efforts to be recognized, but with such a high level of competition, it is only possible to select the very best for special honors. Every quality project, though, is a winner for the local community, furthering the cause of downtown revitalization.”
The Downtown Development Corporation distributed the award winning brochure to local downtown businesses, Welcome Centers, regional Visitor Information Centers and local hotels and is now in its second run.
